The Albuquerque Mashers is the home team for our city. What makes the Mashers and video games "The new sport of the mind" so exciting? It's a sport where you can participate in with the best in nation, and practice your skills so you can join the team in smashing down our competition from Colorado, Texas, and many other out of state teams looking to steal our glory!
We make some of the best players in the nation, and we help train people who are just starting out on their path by making sure we enhance the fun of playing. Come join us and have more fun playing your games and have more fun when playing with the Mashers!
What are the benefits of being a Masher?
Money: Mashers get access to the X-topia Trip fund. If your looking to travel to an out of state tournament, and you a Masher you can request to use a portion of the trip fund to help pay for your expenses for travel, food, car rental anything pertaining to the trip.
Coaching: We are a team in state. Sure when we battles against one another it's to win, but when we hold our large out of state tournaments, it's to defend the home turf. Just like any competitive sport, you can always improve and having an extra set of eyes, more experienced can help you in droves. When we get together and you want to rise you game you can request for a senior player to "Watch" your game, and give you helpful hints on how to improve.
Teamwork: Supporting all our members with positive feedback, providing enrichment integrity, innovation excellence, respect one another and tradition. These are the tenants of our team work motto. If your looking to have more fun, and looking to improve your game at the same time. Comming to a monthly battle will not only help your game, but it's a great place to come out and socialize!
How do I become a Masher?
Well everyone was a Masher when they first started playing video games and everyone is a Masher in their heart. But to qualify to become part of the team you just need to join our Monthly Ranking battles. These ranking battles help determine who's the best in the state in particular games. When we rent a car to travel to tournaments half the seats are for the top Masher players. The other half are handed out on a lottery system. People who attend monthlies are given first consideration on the lottery system.
Where and what time are the monthly battles?
The monthlies are held once a month! Currently the monthlies have no permanent home. Each month we select a different location, check out the forums for the latest information on the location and time of our monthlies. Typically monthlies are held the last weekend or 2nd to last weekend of the month.
What games are at the monthly battles?
Any game period. At X-topia we don't limit what our players want to play. It's an open venue for a person to bring any game they wish. But remember the games that do the best are the ones that have a national following or have build up a following, supported by the players. If you bring Donkey Konga you might have some people play for fun, but your probably not going to have any national tournaments to go to, for that reason people probably won't play it in a competitive fashion wanting to be ranked.
But games that have build following are always there such as Tekken, Capcom vs. SNK2, Marvel Vs. Capcom, HALO 2, Soul calibur, Super Smash Brothers Melee ect. ect.
That does not mean you cannot build a following for the game you love, I've known many of these games to have no players in the beginning D.O.A. for example and then grow into a significant amount of players because of the support and effort the players put into the game promoting it.
Check the Forums for a list of current games that will be there, or volunteer to bring your own and start promoting it!
X-topia support and volunteers
We are growing but as always we need your help. When ranking battles hapen we have found the venue, worked a relationship with the venues owner, sometimes the venue charges us sometimes not. But we always need help with additional T.V.s or games. We do have our own we bring, but the more set-ups T.V.s, games, consoles, players bring to support the event the more games and faster it goes. check the forums to see if we need any help or if you can help thanks!
