Emerald City ComiCon 2010

I decided to make a return trip to Seattle’s Emerald City ComiCon after seeing their TV commercials. During my last visit to the convention, I had my fill of the show after a single day, so I only purchased a Saturday pass. At the end of the night, I wish I would have spent the extra $10 for the Sunday admission!

While riding the light rail to downtown, I glanced at Twitter and saw a few posts complaining about the lines. Once I headed to the convention center, I was greeted by this “long” wait that lasted about 5 minutes tops. Those silly people should really see the lines at PAX or Sakura-Con!

After donning my badge, I walked towards the skybridge that lead to the exhibit hall. On the way, I encountered the World’s Finest! Times like this really make me want to order myself a Batman costume…
Posted Image
This beautiful cowgirl was a character named Artemis. Her series is currently on its third issue. May it have a long and prosperous run!
Posted Image
Once I reached the interior, I discovered the crazy lines that people were complaining about online. Stan Lee and Leonard Nimoy’s presence brought quite a crowd to the show. I thought it kind of cool to see them, but did not want to pay the fees, which ranged from $40 to $65.

Touring my surroundings, I came across Lady Bullseye. She was waiting in line to meet acclaimed Marvel writer Ed Brubaker.
Posted Image
I saw three Cobra Commanders throughout the day. Personally, I thought that this one had the best outfit. I’ve always had a preference for the visor over the hood.
Posted Image
A Scarlet Spider was posing with Ms. Marvel. I wonder if he was supposed to be Peter Parker, Michael, Van, or Patrick…
Posted Image
I’d only been at the convention for an hour when the Mondo Marvel panel started. I usually don’t attend too many panels, but I thought I’d go to this one in hopes of finding out more spoilers regarding the various Heroic Age Avengers teams. Unfortunately, nothing new was revealed about the team rosters. Still, it was fun to see and hear people like Joe Quesada and Brian Michael Bendis in person.
Posted Image
Of course, the Joker was still a very popular costume choice for ECCC attendees. I’d say this guy was the best of the bunch since he also did a good job of replicating Ledger’s mannerisms.
Posted Image
I’d planned on reviving my Batman Begins Scarecrow outfit for the event, but my mask didn’t turn out very well. That’s what I get for trying to craft a mask in a single night! Good thing I didn’t wear it since I would have been shown up by this guy’s costume!
Posted Image
The incredible Lou Ferrigno was one of the show’s special guests, and of course he drew quite a crowd! I mean, really, who doesn’t want to meet Doug Heffernan’s neighbor?
Posted Image
I soon encountered the odd pair of Michelangelo and Scarecrow from the popular Batman animated series. It felt like I was reliving a proper Saturday morning in the 90s!
Posted Image
There’s Cobra Commander #2. He opted for the hooded variation of the costume.

These folks offered facepainting services to attendees at the show. I believe this woman was getting a makeover to resemble one of those blue critters in Avatar.

A bunch of Star Wars-related character were posing by a backdrop. Chewbacca was there for quite a while. I think he did a pretty good job, though the face looks a little too ferocious.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0903/dtjaaaamjsl/eccc10/eccohten17.jpg
Fairly close by was this Ewok. From what I recall, a little person was not inside the costume.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0903/dtjaaaamjsl/eccc10/eccohten18.jpg
These two cosplayers were some of my favorites from the convention. I never expected to see people dressed up as Bavmorda and Kael from Willow!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0903/dtjaaaamjsl/eccc10/eccohten19.jpg
Many convention-goers marveled at Psylocke and Elektra. Of course, I had to join in and get a photo of my own!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0903/dtjaaaamjsl/eccc10/eccohten20.jpg
An Ahsoka Tano walked around carrying this creature on her back. I thought it looked quite amusing!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0903/dtjaaaamjsl/eccc10/eccohten21.jpg
This motley crew from the Venture Bros. was quite popular with the cosplay photographers. I can also think of a few friends who would have enjoyed seeing this group in person.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0903/dtjaaaamjsl/eccc10/eccohten22.jpg
Nick Fury snuck up on me and asked if I’ve heard about the Avenger Initiative. Nope, can’t say I have.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0903/dtjaaaamjsl/eccc10/eccohten23.jpg
As usual, Pink Gorilla brought a showcase of games to this local convention. However, I didn’t see anything that I needed to buy. I was informed about a neat retro gaming charity event that would be happening in Kelso, WA. Too bad I don’t think that I’ll be able to attend it.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0903/dtjaaaamjsl/eccc10/eccohten24.jpg
The female denizens of Gotham City are pretty guaranteed to be at a comic book convention. That’s the first of several groups.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0903/dtjaaaamjsl/eccc10/eccohten25.jpg
A company called Reset Games had the only other booth dedicated to my favorite hobby. While their selection at the show wasn’t too impressive, I will have to pay a visit to their shop if I’m ever in Bellingham.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0903/dtjaaaamjsl/eccc10/eccohten26.jpg
The symbiote Spider-Man was hanging out with Psylocke and Dr. Doom. Somewhere out there, I’m sure that this is someone’s Marvel VS Capcom 2 team.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0903/dtjaaaamjsl/eccc10/eccohten27.jpg
You’ll always see interesting fashions at these kinds of events. For example, the outfit worn by this lovely lady.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0903/dtjaaaamjsl/eccc10/eccohten28.jpg
Black Cat was on the prowl! It looks like the convention center’s Subway was the scene of her latest crime.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0903/dtjaaaamjsl/eccc10/eccohten29.jpg
A convention isn’t a convention without black Akuma! Here he is striking another one of his action-packed poses.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0903/dtjaaaamjsl/eccc10/eccohten30.jpg
Batman Beyond and Dark Phoenix journeyed through time to arrive at ECCC. They should have brought the man called Cable with them!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0903/dtjaaaamjsl/eccc10/eccohten31.jpg
This trio had an interesting set of costumes. They were promoting a Seattle burlesque troupe known as the Atomic Bombshells.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0903/dtjaaaamjsl/eccc10/eccohten32.jpg
The Rat City Roller Girls were another female group running an exhibit at the convention. They’re a local roller derby team.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0903/dtjaaaamjsl/eccc10/eccohten33.jpg
Thomas Jane was at ECCC to promote his new comic, Bad Planet. He also didn’t participate in too many gunfights, just like in his Punisher movie.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0903/dtjaaaamjsl/eccc10/eccohten34.jpg
If Leonard Nimoy is present, you can bet your bottom dollar that some other Star Trek characters will be on the scene! These Klingons gave me a chance to photograph their flowing locks of hair.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0903/dtjaaaamjsl/eccc10/eccohten35.jpg
For a dollar, you could spin the wheel and win a mystery prize! I wandered by several times and didn’t see a single person who was up to the challenge.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0903/dtjaaaamjsl/eccc10/eccohten36.jpg
The nurses from Silent Hill are always a popular costume. These two were the only set at ECCC.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0903/dtjaaaamjsl/eccc10/eccohten37.jpg
Yeah, I could have paid $60 to get a photo taken alongside Leonard Nimoy. Instead, I decided to sneak this picture as someone who had paid left the curtained room.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0903/dtjaaaamjsl/eccc10/eccohten38.jpg
Ah, I recall this Magneto from my last visit to the convention. He still bears an uncanny resemblance to Sir Ian McKellen!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0903/dtjaaaamjsl/eccc10/eccohten39.jpg
That was one prizes that Magic: The Gathering players could win. It’s an uncut sheet of rare holographic cards.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0903/dtjaaaamjsl/eccc10/eccohten40.jpg
A Tusken Raider patrolled the skybridge. He really liked showing off his prized gaffi stick.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0903/dtjaaaamjsl/eccc10/eccohten41.jpg
I know that the dude on the right is one of the Borg. As for the guy on the right… I’m not too sure, but he still looked pretty badass!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0903/dtjaaaamjsl/eccc10/eccohten42.jpg
Two of the approximately 7200 Green Lantern Corps members showed up to defend the Emerald City. No offense to Guy Gardner, but I’m more of a Kyle Rayner fan!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0903/dtjaaaamjsl/eccc10/eccohten43.jpg
Dark Phoenix and Dax from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. Wait a minute… they’re both hosts to extraterrestrial beings!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0903/dtjaaaamjsl/eccc10/eccohten44.jpg
SNIKT! Out of all the James Howlett cosplayers, this bub was the best there is at what he does.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0903/dtjaaaamjsl/eccc10/eccohten45.jpg
Spider-Girl was palling around with the Hulk. Luckiy nobody at the convention got SMASHED!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0903/dtjaaaamjsl/eccc10/eccohten46.jpg
Microsoft’s booth didn’t really interest me since they only had Halo-related products. At least they were handing out raffle tickets. Then again, the prizes were Halo merchandise…
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0903/dtjaaaamjsl/eccc10/eccohten47.jpg
I knew it was a long shot, but I really hoped that a playable build of Super Street Fighter 4 would be at this convention. Sadly, that wish didn’t come true. At least UDON had some nice artwork promoting that game and a few other Capcom-related titles.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0903/dtjaaaamjsl/eccc10/eccohten48.jpg
I’m pretty sure that this gal was cosplaying as one of those people from Chobits. The only thing that makes me uncertain is the lack of ears.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0903/dtjaaaamjsl/eccc10/eccohten49.jpg
Hollywood, listen up! This Piccolo looked WAY better than the one in the live action Dragon Ball movie.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0903/dtjaaaamjsl/eccc10/eccohten50.jpg
Ash survived his trip to the Marvel Werewolves universe! “Come get some.”
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0903/dtjaaaamjsl/eccc10/eccohten51.jpg
Taking another lap past the Star Wars backdrop, I decided to snap a shot of the Jawa and GH-7 meddroid. The droid would actually moves its head every once and a while.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0903/dtjaaaamjsl/eccc10/eccohten52.jpg
It’s several cast members from Mother! I guess this is what they do while they wait for Nintendo of America to give them another shot in the USA.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0903/dtjaaaamjsl/eccc10/eccohten53.jpg
Hey look, a table of free stuff! Oh wait, those are New Moon posters… no thanks!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0903/dtjaaaamjsl/eccc10/eccohten54.jpg
The Comedian and the original Silk Spectre reconciled long enough to attend this convention as a couple. Dr. Manhattan will eventually mention this to Laurie.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0903/dtjaaaamjsl/eccc10/eccohten55.jpg
So this is where the Scarlet Witch has been hiding! She’d rather hang around with Catwoman and Harley Quinn than those no-good Avengers.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0903/dtjaaaamjsl/eccc10/eccohten56.jpg
Several inmates of Arkham Asylum were on the loose! Where’s the Caped Crusader when you need him!?
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0903/dtjaaaamjsl/eccc10/eccohten57.jpg
Dengar and a Sandtrooper were joined by Lara Croft. Perhaps she was trying to become a part of the expanded Star Wars universe.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0903/dtjaaaamjsl/eccc10/eccohten58.jpg
DC’s booth was the only place where I managed to snag some free comics. They were mainly Wildstorm and Vertigo titles, but I’m not complaining!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0903/dtjaaaamjsl/eccc10/eccohten59.jpg
X-Men! X-Men! This is their day! X-Men! X-Men! Coming your way!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0903/dtjaaaamjsl/eccc10/eccohten60.jpg
The final Cobra Commander had the best voice. He also gets props for bringing the Baroness along with him.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0903/dtjaaaamjsl/eccc10/eccohten61.jpg
ULTIMATE Captain America! He didn’t ask me if I though the letter on his head stood for France.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0903/dtjaaaamjsl/eccc10/eccohten64.jpg
It’s a showdown years in the making! Mini Master Chief versus a young Predator!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0903/dtjaaaamjsl/eccc10/eccohten65.jpg
AVENGERS ASSEMBLE! I guess Iron Man was too good (or perhaps drunk) to show up, so Daredevil took his place.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0903/dtjaaaamjsl/eccc10/eccohten67.jpg
The last group of Gotham girls. Harley was swapped out with her partner in crime, Ivy.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0903/dtjaaaamjsl/eccc10/eccohten68.jpg
Now here’s a pair that you don’t see very often. Patti Mayonnaise and Quailman from good ol’ Doug.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0903/dtjaaaamjsl/eccc10/eccohten69.jpg
Another Ultimate Nick Fury kept an eye on the convention. He also had a fabulous pimp coat.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0903/dtjaaaamjsl/eccc10/eccohten70.jpg
She was the only female slave Leia at ECCC. Yeah, there was a male one…
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0903/dtjaaaamjsl/eccc10/eccohten71.jpg
Selina Kyle. She must have lost her ears while escaping from the *** Batman.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0903/dtjaaaamjsl/eccc10/eccohten72.jpg
Chrono Cross was shown some love by this Kid cosplayer. Too bad she didn’t have the Cockney accent!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0903/dtjaaaamjsl/eccc10/eccohten73.jpg
The masked gunman known as Grifter. I guess he’s taking a small vacation from working with the Authority.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0903/dtjaaaamjsl/eccc10/eccohten74.jpg
By the Hoary Hosts of Hoggoth! It’s the former Sorcerer Supreme, Dr. Strange!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0903/dtjaaaamjsl/eccc10/eccohten75.jpg
Last but not least is this gentleman with a facehugger. Despite pleas from photographers, he refused to don the heavy helmet his female companion was holding.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0903/dtjaaaamjsl/1up/endspacerbar.jpg
Alright, that’s the end of another convention recap! This experience was a vast improvement compared to my last visit, so I’ll be back for more next year. Heck, perhaps I’ll be there for all three days.
