Welcome to the NVGA Pre-registration FAQ. This FAQ is here to provide you with information concerning the functionality of the Pre-registration system for the NVGA and its chapters. This is a growing document so we will be adding even more questions and answers throughout the year.

1. What are the requirements to use the pre-registration system?

To use the pre-registration system you will need the following:

  • Register a NVGA forum account on the NVGA forums (NVGA Web Site)
  • Required PayPal Account, credit card or debit card

Register for a NVGA forum account:

The pre-registration is centered on your NVGA forum account for a couple of reasons. First and foremost your profile is used to keep track of what events and tournaments you have signed up for. Second, your forum id is used for your Player Ranking in NVGA tournaments throughout the year. This part of the system will be available to the masses by September but we are currently keeping track of people's positions. As you compete in NVGA chapter events you will gain points that will allow you establish a ranking for yourself across the NVGA thus being seeded approximately around the nation. It also opens the following opportunities to players competing in NVGA chapters:

  • Sponsorship money from your chapter to compete all over the NVGA and beyond
  • Provides players with the ability to use the NVGA customized player page to showcase player achievements.
  • Consist updating of player rankings across the NVGA
  • Educational and job opporturnites within the NVGA and the gaming industry
  • All this is at the finger tips of players that compete and support the chapters of the NVGA and the NVGA itself.

Using PayPal:

PayPal is one of the most trusted money transactions systems in the world. With that being said we wanted to use a system that people trusted and would handle your money in the appropriate fashion. That is why we require people to have a PayPal account, credit card or debit card.

2. What can I do in the pre-registration system?

The pre-registration system has the following capabilities:

  • View players that are signed up for an event
  • View player profiles
  • Ability to register for all NVGA chapter and NVGA events
  • Ability to join team based events
  • Ability to start a team for team based events
  • Ability to signup for individual events
  • Ability to edit your forum and personal information
  • Ability to change which games you would like enter before you pay for them

3. Can I pay at the door at the event?

Yes but you should still try to register to guarantee your spot. We have two ways to signup for events:

  • Pay Now
  • Pay at the Door

Pay Now:

This is the ability to pay through PayPal and get a discounted rate on your entry into the event.

Pay at the Door:

This is the ability to signup online with the intent of paying later. If you do not pay online one week prior to the event you will have to pay the door fee associated with that tournament.

4. Why not an online service charge fee for paypal?

The NVGA feel that pre-registration is a benefit to both the player and the organizations. With our new policies in place the player should not be taked on with extra expense to enjoy an event. Let's take of that and simply come and enjoy yourself.

5. Are there any refunds?

Due to the ability that the system has to allow players to edit their game selections before you pay there will be refunds given to those individuals that pay online. Decide to pay for your tournaments wisely!!

6. How do I signup for single events?

The goal of the pre-registration is to make it easy for the user to edit there registration options and control their own fate. With that in mind we built the registration to allow players to add themselves to whatever tournament of there choose freely and easily.

  • Register yourself for the event.

  • You will be taken to the user summary page. Click on the 'JOIN A TEAM / REGISTER FOR TEAM EVENT' ' if you want to signup for an single event or a team. Note: You cannot be on multiple teams of the same tournament game i.e. you cannot be on two HALO teams. Pick a team to join or an individual event to enter.

  • Click Save

  • The player will see that they are signed up there team or individual game as well as the cost associated with the game. They can decide to pay now or pay later BUT if they don't pay before a week of the event registration will close and they will have to pay the door fee.

7. This team registration is new to me. How does it work?

The goal of the team pre-registration is to make it easy for the user to edit there registration options and control their own fate. With that in mind we built the team registration to allow players to add themselves to teams as well as handle their individual registration very easily.

  • Register yourself for the event.

  • You will be taken to the user summary page. Click on the 'REGISTER FOR TEAM EVENT' if you want to make a new team for the event. Note: You cannot be on multiple teams of the same tournament game i.e. you cannot be on two HALO teams.

  • You will be required to give a team name. Note: You cannot have the same team name for multiple tournaments.

  • In this situation you will become the captain of that team. Team Captains are responsible for the following:
    • You will be responsible for paying for your portion of the team as well as being able to see who has signed up and paid for there portion of the team.

    • There is also a secret phrase/password that is assoicated with each team. Each secret phrase/password is specified per event.

    • As captain you must determine that secret phrase/password and distribute it accordingly to your desired teammates.

    • As captain your are restricted to the team name that you register for starting from the start and end of a season. This means the following:
      • You cannot signup for an event as captain for a different team UNDER THE SAME GAMETYPE. For example you cannot be captain of two HALO 3 (2 v 2) teams. This criteria applies to all events in the NVGA. Once the season ends team names are reset and you can be a captain of any team your wish but once you register as captain for a team again your are bound to that team name for that specific season.
  • If a player wants to be part of that team they will need to do the following things:
    • Register for the event.

    • Click on the JOIN TEAM BUTTON in the user summary section.

    • Select the team you want to be part of and then put in the secret phrase/password.

    • You will be charged your portion of the team venue fee and the pot fee.

    • Push the SAVE button
      • Note: If the team is filled up you will prompted that the team is full.
  • All players and teams must have their entry fees paid in full ONE WEEK before the event in order to get the pre-registration rate.

8. Who do I get in contact with if I have a problem with registration

9. How can I view all the specific person entry to an event?

With security in place you cannot see the user summary page for another user without knowing there NVGA log in information but if you want to see what other players are signed up simply go to the 'View Active Events' -> 'View Registered Players' and then highlight and click on a specfic user. From there your selection is locked and then you can scroll over and see all the events that a person has entered.

10. For some reason I'm getting a paypal error when I try to pay. How do I fix it?

The system was built using Internet Explorer 7 (IE7). With IE8 now released some web applications that were viewed in IE7 don't work in IE8 unless you do the following:

    • When you open up the app in IE8 there is a button right next to the refresh option
    • This button is a compatibility option that allows pages made in IE7 to be viewed in IE8. Once you click on the button refresh that app and you should have the app working like normal. If anything, close the browser and then open the app with the compatability option clicked

11. How to change your NVGA profile information?

Editing your user information needs to be made from the NVGA site. To do this do the following:

    • Log into the NVGA site
    • Click on the option on the right hand corner 'My controls"
    • From there you have many options which include:
      • Change email
      • Change Display Name
      • and much more
